Questions to the Rock - 8/22/06
Tuesday: Not as bad as Wednesday, but not nearly close enough to Friday. Therefore, I bring you….more questions to the rock! See below:
Question #1
Hey iRockhoes,
I have seen you play many times on Full Tilt and am quite impressed with your talents. I am fairly new on the site, but have playing online poker for about nine months. My question is: what books or dvds have you read or seen that you would recommend to a player who is knowledgeable but wants to take his game to a higher level?
Thanks!
Eric Trujillo
Answer
Eric,
I think outside material is overrated, but it is very effective for a specific group of people. I believe people who are either just starting out, or those that are of intermediate level and want to solidify their game in order to take it to the next level. That being said, Harrington’s books really helped with tourney play. As for cash, supersystem 2 stands out.
Experience is the biggest key to becoming a better player. There are just so many situations that you will encounter, reading and memorizing them would be way too hard. Experience is the way to improve.

Question #2
Dear Scott
Well done for getting a site up and running, long overdue I think compared to some players. Anyway i have a few questions that im hoping you might be able to help out with.
I regularly play .50/1 and for the past 8 weeks i have shown a profit of sometimes 7 or more full buy-ins for each week, but as soon as i move to 1/2 i get crushed,i dont know what or why but i seem to change my style of play making both bad calls and bad laydowns where as at .50/1 im very much clued in and seem to no when im in front any advice would be great.
keep up the good work/site.
Are you coming to australia for the aussie millions?
Take care anyway
Regards
Nicholas Goold
Answer
Nicholas,
First of all I am not sure what I am doing with tournaments for the upcoming year, but I’d like to make it down to the Aussie Millions at some point.
Second, when moving up stakes, you first need the bankroll. Being bankrolled is not enough but just a prerequisite. You then have to slowly break into the new level. Do this by playing at first 90 percent .5/1, and 10 percent 1/2. Shift it on a slow basis to all the way 1/2 as you numb urself to the money. You want to make sure when you are playing ur higher limit, you only play 1 table, and really focus on what everyone is doing. Also try to stick to tables that have
few people with or above the max buy in. Try to stay away from the good players for now and hammer on the weak ones.

Irock I am going to guess you and sbrugby played heads up quite a bit. I am seeing srugby play hu against everyone with no regard to game selection. Is srugby that good and what are your results against this guy??

haha sbrugby is very good player. He is one of the best online you will see play. That being said i have bragging rights over him heads up. He is way more successful than me in terms of winnings, but i still got that to hang my hat on

If sbrugby was at the final tablein New Orleans, thers only a few possibilities. Eliminate Chad Brown, Daniel, the teeth guy, the local with his mom watching, and the bullrider/full tilt pro. Makes me think its the Harvard guy or the guy who finished 2nd…

nikolai, you are thinking of Tunica…the New Orleans final table was the one with Gavin Smith, Peter Feldman, and Prescott…there were a couple young players at that one that didn’t get shown much…he could have been one of those
