Fold Equity – It’s Half the Battle

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

Here are two hands that I got it all in with the best and lost. The reason I am writing about them is that they are a good contrast to see how getting it all in with the worst in the second hand is a far superior play to getting it all-in in the first hand.

A Good Lay Down…One Street Too Late

Friday, August 11th, 2006

After the good hand against Kido and the bad hand against Jon, I was at about 40k in chips. I doubled up when I hit a set against a weaker player who overplayed his Queens, and after an hour was sitting at 100k in chips. The Worst Hand I’ve Ever Played in a Tournament

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

This hand came against a young kid by the name Jon Lane, I believe. He was one of the chip leaders at one point, not sure how he finished up. This was at the same table with Kido, and with Kido now crippled after my big all in with him, Jon was the big stack and kind of running the table. He had shown down a lot of mid pocket pairs for winners on scary boards, and seemed to only play from position. He raised from late position, and I looked down at A9spades.

Setting up Kido Pham

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Recently I had the pleasure of playing in the 2006 WSOP Main Event. The tournament was a bumpy road for sure, and after some ups and downs I found myself with about 24k and coming to table with a very big stack. Behind the stack Kido Pham poked his head out. He recently won a circuit event that you can watch on ESPN, and is obviously a skilled player. He was sitting on about 80k and luckily sitting in the 10 seat, while I was in the 1 seat (to his left).
