Never Depend on a Bad Player to Make a Good Play

There was a post on 2+2 the other day that asked high stakes players what they thought the biggest hurdles were when coming up. Obviously, getting used to playing for more money is a big one. A few players mentioned thinking about poker away from the table helped their game a lot. I would say the biggest hurdle that lower stakes players face would be thinking about poker the way that others at your table are. You have to work through their thought processes before you can conduct your own. You have to make reads.

Subtlety Changes Make World’s of Difference

I have been fairly busy with finals at the end of this last semester, so I haven’t been able to write any official articles for awhile. Any topics you would wish me to cover post in the Forum News and I will try to accommodate any request.

This article is focused on some of the more subtle nuances of your game that you might be unaware of. If you watch when most of the higher stakes players play, you will often see them take advantage of the popular “Bet Pot” button. However, you will hardly ever see me use this button, at least preflop, unless I am on Ultimate Bet because their “Bet Pot” button is just so damn addicting! This is not because I just want to be different or that I am a rebel. It’s because of pot control.

I once asked a very well respected and prominent online player, “Why don’t you play higher against the best heads up?” He responded, “Poker isn’t about ego, it’s about money.” This quote has stuck with me ever since and really turned my way of thinking around.

A Trick for Handling Bad Beats Online

A lot of people ask me how I handle all the bad beats that are online without going on tilt. The truth is everyone tilts; just some do it to a greater extent than others. Tilting can turn an easy table into an impossible one, or even worse a winning session into a losing one. There are some truly great players, even professionals, which would be killing the game if they learned to handle their tilting tendencies.
